SWCMCD employees will be out treating storm drains in the district starting Tuesday, April 6, 2021.
Storm drain treatment throughout South Walton is conducted twice a year. With close to 10,000 storm drains throughout the district, the treatment should take around four weeks. The stagnant water that sits in the storm drains can be a prime breeding site for certain mosquito species that can vector disease such as West Nile Virus. The larvicide treatments used target larvae in the breeding habitat before they can mature into adult mosquitoes.
